Commún: Busy Holidays Ahead…and a new location

From Commún staff

Commún is very excited to announce that on October 21 we signed a multi-year lease with an option to buy Machebeuf Hall on the former Loretto Heights Campus. The current owner is now the Urban Land Conservancy. After four years of community engagement, Commún is working diligently with Southwest Denver residents to finalize plans for a community center in the 40,000 square foot building and grow our programs to fit the space. In this season, Commún has been busy working to purchase culturally-relevant food for the holidays. We gave out extra food on Thursday, November 17 and will again on December 22.

We are planning to host our annual community toy distribution with Toys for Tots in December, and are assembling the community leadership team for that effort and finalizing details. Check our social media for updates! We have also partnered with Beacon Church for the second year in a row to deliver toys to families for the winter holidays. We are grateful for their support and partnership.

With our new community trainer and program developer on staff, we have increased paid monthly trainings to two per-month based on community requests. Recent training topics include domestic violence, first time homebuying, life insurance, and personal finances. Finally, Commún is actively recruiting for many staff positions! We are hiring two community navigators as we launch our case management program. In preparation to move to our community center at Loretto Heights, we have recently hired five youth organizers to design and create an inclusive mental health space for teens. We are currently hiring for the Community Center Organizing Team and the Climate Justice Organizing Team. Check out the job descriptions on our website and social media pages.
