Food Justice NW Aurora Shares Report on Impacts of Immigration Enforcement on Food Access in Northwest Aurora

In response to expanded Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities across the country, Food Justice NW Aurora (FJNWA) is working to address the needs of the northwest Aurora community at the intersection of food access and federal immigration enforcement. FJNWA stands in solidarity with the immigrant and refugee communities that make northwest Aurora a vibrant and resilient place to live. FJNWA sees the direct and negative impacts of ICE activity on its community’s ability to access food, and the organization is taking steps to respond.

FJNWA shares this report to affirm its commitment to food as a basic human right and to support and preserve the cultural richness of northwest Aurora. In this report, FJNWA connects food access data from its Food Justice Festival Survey to the impact of ICE’s presence in the community. They then describe how their organization directed its capacity to meet the needs of the community through conversations with residents, collaborating with statewide organizations, providing trainings and education, and engaging with local and statewide policy advocacy efforts.
