Celebrating Our First Pathways Cohort & Launching the Next Chapter

In January 2025, the Barton Institute launched the Pathways Program, an initiative designed to support mid-career nonprofit leaders within the metro Denver social change sector. This program evolved from conversations with community leaders who expressed a need for more in-depth professional development, meaningful mentorship, and greater access to decision-making spaces for social change leaders, particularly those with historically marginalized identities.

We matched 10 pairs of Leaders and Mentors in our inaugural year, creating a dynamic, cohort-based learning environment paired with intentional, personalized, one-on-one mentoring.

Our Goals Were To:

Support Leaders as they set goals and make measurable progress

Increase the presence, engagement, and skills of Mentors with historically marginalized identities in Denver’s social change sector

Expand social and professional networks for both Leaders and Mentors.

The impact has been both personal and professional. Here’s what participants shared about their experience:

“The Cohort Learning Sessions create a space where we can build meaningful relationships and learn from one another. It’s been powerful to realize that I’m not alone—hearing others' experiences and perspectives has been both validating and inspiring.”

“I'm so very appreciative of this program. It's helping me toward goals I had set for myself a year ago. Finding a formal Mentor and an ED support group of sorts, and the caliber of people and organizations is a dream come true.”

Year Two of the Pathways Program

With this encouraging feedback, we are excited to announce the launch of Year Two of the Pathways Program

We invite mid-career nonprofit leaders, particularly those with historically marginalized identities, to participate in a one-year cohort experience (January – December 2026) focused on strengthening leadership skills, building relationships, and advancing professional goals.

Program Highlights:

  • One-on-one mentorship with an experienced Mentor (at least 10 sessions over the year);

  • Quarterly Cohort Learning Sessions to develop community and create space for collective learning and care;

  • Two or three informal social gatherings to strengthen connections; and

  • A $10,000 stipend for both Leaders and Mentors.

If you're looking to sharpen your skills, connect with like-minded changemakers, or grow your leadership in new directions, we encourage you to apply.
